A note from Coach Foell:

On this page you will find numerous links to other site's pages that will provide you lots of information on how to help and encourage your diving son or daughter to achieve their personal goals.

If you do not know yet, Diving is a personal sport where the diver is their worst and best competitor. Although diving may look effortless, it definitely is not and requires decipline, dedication, and excercise. When a diver makes a dive look beautiful, graceful and easy is when all of their hard work has paid off. There are also days and times when things just don't go right. The dive can go wrong for something very simple like a bad hurdle or something as complex and unexplainable as a shift in the earth's gravitational field at the exact moment the diver left the board. Whatever / whenever it happens, be there for your diver and help them concentrate on the next dive. I have a saying that I have picked up in my travels, "You can't change the past, only the future."

As a parent of four myself, I know how hard it is to not be critical and judgemental, but to be encouraging. As a human being it just can't be done all of the time, but it is our job as parents to do our best at trying to do it all the time. As a coach, it is my job all of the time.

I hope that you find the information contained on the pages that the links below lead to useful. Please visit the 'Diver's Area' also to understand what your diving son or daughter will be trying to do and where their mind should be in order to be successful at diving. This may give you some insight as to how to help them or just stay out of their way when things aren't going the way they want.
